CHARLES V. GROLL

CHARLES V. GROLL (b. February 10, 1884)
            He was born in Stanislavov, Galicia.  He came as a child with his family to the United States.  He graduated from elementary and middle school, later from a university, and became a lawyer.  He was a director of Yiddish theaters in New York.  He authored the plays: Shvester un brider (Sisters and brothers); Ir farteydikung, oder ir shreklekher sod (Her defense, or her terrible secret).  Among his books: Yede froy vi zi zukht libe (Every woman’s quest for love) (New York, 1916), 46 pp.  He was the founder of the Jewish Theatrical Managers Association.  From 1920 he was the official lawyer of the Yiddish actors union.  He was also the secretary of the publishing committee of Z. Zilbertsvayg’s Leksikon fun yidishn teater (Handbook of the Yiddish theater).
